Sleep Appliances - Too Many Choices

Friday, 14 September - 1:15pm (Lunch and Learn Workshop)

Dental Sleep medicine is a growing field, with sleep problems becoming recognised as real health issues for patients of all ages. Although CPAP is considered to be the gold standard treatment, it is not an appropriate treatment option for every patient. An alternative, the mandibular advancement splint, may be the answer. New oral appliances are being developed and it is hard to work out which appliances to use. Geraldine will discuss the general qualities required in mandibular advancement splints and look at various appliances to help you choose what will work best for you and your patients.

Dr Ash graduated from Sydney University and has lived and worked in London and India, as well as living in the Philippines. She has spent much of her dental career working in Canberra, where she became involved in Dental Sleep Medicine. She was in the first cohort of students to complete the UWA/UA Graduate Diploma in Dental Sleep Medicine  in 2014 and divides her working time between treating general dental patients, and treating patients referred to her who suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnoea.
