Dental Care Of Children With Common Syndromes

Friday, 14 September - 3:20pm

Many common genetic conditions are characterised by dental anomalies. This includes abnormalities in the number, size or shape of teeth as well as unusual soft tissue conditions. While some of these children will be managed in tertiary medical/dental settings, many will present to general dentists so a knowledge of their condition and associated co-morbidities will help improve the quality of care they receive.
In addition, children with syndromes and chronic medical conditions share some dental and behavioural characteristics and an awareness of these can ensure more appropriate management of the patient to achieve a good long-term outcome.

Fiona obtained her Bachelor of Dental Science from the University of Melbourne in 1994 and spent the next 8 years in public and private general practice throughout Australia. An interest in paediatric dentistry lead to the completion of a Master of Dental Science (Paediatric Dentistry) from the University of Sydney in 2006. In 2007 Fiona joined Dr Peter Wong in Canberra where they practise all facets of paediatric dentistry.
