Clinicians are asked every day to decide about the short and long-term management of third molars. In this presentation, Dr Hyam will discuss the factors that contribute to the decision, the available techniques, and the ways to communicate this to patients. He will present a decision matrix that can be used to confirm that all factors have been considered in a personalised way for each patient, and then go on to discuss the who, where, when, and why of third molar management.
Dr Hyam is the director of the Oral & Maxillofacial surgery unit at The Canberra Hospital. His practice covers the full range of Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, from third molars through to facial cancer and reconstruction. Dr Hyam has a particular interest is decision making and medical heuristics, and is currently the head examiner in OMFS for Australia & New Zealand.
